- New York became a state on July 26, 1788.
- King Charles II sent warships out to New York because he didn't like the trading that the Dutch was doing. This caused them to surrender the colony to the English.
- New York was also called New Netherland, but later changed to New York in honor of the Duke of York.
- The British wanted New York for there natural resources such as the land was very fertile and good for farming. New York also made products such as molasses, rum, quilts, candles, knives, furniture, and many more.
- New York was the main exports and imports of the Caribbean and Europe; trading lumber, fur and livestock.
